Reliable Pressure Measurement Across the Entire H2 Value Chain
We specialize in pressure measurement technology for demanding hydrogen applications, providing solutions that guarantee maximum material compatibility and long-term stability. Our products are rigorously designed for safety in critical systems, making us your reliable partner across the entire value chain of the hydrogen economy from production to final application.
The Unique Challenges of Hydrogen Pressure Measurement
Measuring hydrogen pressure places distinct demands on sensor technology. A primary concern is hydrogen embrittlement, which can lead to material fatigue and failure in unsuitable metallic components. Due to the small molecular size of H2, there is also a high risk of permeation through seals and diaphragms. Furthermore, H2 systems often operate under high pressures and rapid pressure cycles, requiring exceptional mechanical robustness from the sensors.
Hydrogen Pressure Sensors from DDM Sensors
Our hydrogen-qualified pressure sensors from the PV and PX series offer comprehensive coverage for various measuring ranges and operating requirements. All wetted parts are manufactured from highly resistant 316L (1.4404 / 1.4435) stainless steel, and every sensor undergoes a 100% helium leakage test after welding. The following table provides an overview of DDM Sensors’ pressure sensors for hydrogen applications.
| Model | Measuring Ranges | Overpressure Resistance | Accuracy (Total Error) | Operating Temp. | Diaphragm/Process Conn. Material | Electrical Outputs | Process Connections |
| PV-15 | Gauge: 2.5 to 150 bar | 200 to 400 % | ≤ 1 % (Std), opt. ≤ 0.25 % | -40 to +125 °C | 1.4404, 1.4435 | 0.5 to 4.5 V | M6×1 / M8×1 |

Engineered for Maximum Safety and Durability
All wetted materials are made of hydrogen-compatible stainless steel (316L / 1.4404 / 1.4435) to prevent embrittlement. The sealing concept relies on a fully welded, hermetically sealed sensor design without any elastomers, effectively minimizing the permeation of H2 molecules.
Thanks to superior overpressure and burst safety ratings, the sensors reliably withstand operating pressures and dynamic pressure spikes. These pressure sensors are engineered for wide operating temperature ranges from -40 °C to +125 °C, and their exceptional shock and vibration resistance makes them an outstanding choice for mobile applications.
Application Areas for DDM Hydrogen Pressure Sensors
Pressure sensors from DDM Sensors are suitable for a wide range of applications across the $H_2$ value chain, including:
- Electrolyzers and hydrogen production facilities
- Fuel cell systems for vehicles and stationary power generation
- highly dynamic test benches and R&D applications.
Our sensors are particularly well suited to the development of fuel cells, where they are used for precise pressure measurement at the various stacks. Their suitability has been specifically tested in the demanding mixture of hydrogen, water (vapour) and oxygen (H₂/H₂O/O₂).
