Challenges in Measuring High-Temperature Fluids
Flow measurement in compact systems at extreme temperatures presents a unique set of challenges. Conventional flow meters quickly reach their limits under these conditions. As a solution, we at DDM Sensors have developed miniaturized flow meters specifically designed for high temperatures up to 200 °C.
Advantages of DDM Sensors High-Temperature Flow Meters
High-temperature flow meters from DDM Sensors offer maximum measurement accuracy, even at constantly high fluid and ambient temperatures. Thanks to their compact and lightweight design, we enable simple and exceptionally space-saving system integration. Furthermore, we offer flexible customization options to tailor the sensors exactly to your specific requirements.
Measuring Principles and Technological Suitability for High Temperatures
Depending on the requirements, we rely on various proven measuring principles such as turbines, oval gear meters, paddle wheels, or ultrasound (Time-of-Flight).
Our VCT and FLT series turbine flow meters feature integrated, active temperature compensation via a Type T sheathed thermocouple to ensure measurement accuracy across the entire temperature range. The structural design of all our high-temperature sensors is engineered for high thermal shock resistance, ensuring that rapid temperature cycles within the specified range do not cause damage to the sensor.
Technical Specifications of High-Temperature Flow Meters
The following table provides an overview of the key technical specifications of our high-temperature flow meters.

Temperature and Performance Data
Our flow meters are designed for media temperatures of up to 150 °C and ambient temperatures of up to 125 °C as standard. Upon request, we can supply turbine flow meters with external electronics for media temperatures up to 200 °C. The measurement accuracy remains stable across the entire specified temperature range, as the measuring deviation does not increase with higher temperatures. This guarantees consistently high precision even in the upper temperature limits.
Materials and Construction
Depending on the model and application requirements, high-quality wetted materials such as stainless steel (e.g., 316), ceramics, PVDF, PPS, PEEK, or sapphire are used. For sealing, we use temperature-resistant materials such as Viton, which reliably perform their function even under permanently high temperatures.
Dimensions and Connections
Our flow meter portfolio features extremely compact designs, such as the VCT turbine which measures just 56 mm in length. Dimensions vary depending on the series and nominal width. We offer a wide range of process connections, including standard threads like G (BSP) and NPT, as well as AN threads, Ermeto (EO) tube fittings, and various hose connections to ensure flexible system integration.
Electronics and Interfaces
A variety of analog and digital output signals are available for signal transmission. Our standard portfolio includes TTL and NPN/PNP pulse outputs. For the Atrato ultrasonic flow meter, analog outputs such as 4–20 mA and 0–10 V are also available. Depending on the configuration and customer requirements, additional interfaces like IO-Link, HART, Modbus, or CAN can be integrated to enable seamless connection to control and automation systems.
Typical Application Areas
Our miniaturized high-temperature flow meters are proven in a wide variety of demanding industries and applications:
- Monitoring of cooling circuits in high-performance applications
- Dosing of hot additives or adhesives
- Monitoring of thermal oils in industrial temperature control systems
- Research and development tasks in test benches
- Process monitoring in the semiconductor or chemical industry.
