In the beverage industry, the precision and repeatability of flow measurement are critical to ensuring consistent product quality. DDM Sensors is your specialized partner, delivering precise and miniaturized flow measurement technology for demanding applications in the beverage industry.
Application Areas in Beverage Filling Plants
Raw Water Treatment and Dosing
In raw water treatment, the exact dosing of additives such as disinfectants or minerals is a critical process step. The challenge lies in precisely measuring what are often micro-quantities while completely avoiding any contamination.
The MetraFlow ultrasonic flow meter provides a non-invasive solution for these tasks. Thanks to its wetted tubing made of FDA-approved PFA material, there are no bacteria-breeding sites. The MetraFlow covers a measuring range of 0.02 to 5 L/min, making it ideal for dosing small volumes.

Syrup and Concentrate Dosing
In blending plants, maintaining exact mixing ratios (Brix value) is indispensable for product quality. A particular challenge here is the precise portioning of highly viscous media such as syrups or concentrates. Our OG1/OG2 series oval gear flow meters in PEEK execution are specially designed for this application. They are metal-free, optionally configured for high viscosities, and offer an outstanding repeatability of ±1 %.
Filling Process at the Filling Valve
Direct volume monitoring per bottle or container at the filling valve places high demands on measurement technology, particularly in terms of direct integration, high cycle rates, and maximum reliability. To address this, we offer the Beverage Meter and the NSF Beverage Mini. These devices are NSF-certified, cover a measurement range from 0.6 to 10 L/min, and can be easily integrated into existing systems using John Guest fittings. The low-voltage power supply of 4.5 to 24 V DC enables straightforward connection to standard PLC systems.

Inline Quality Control
Continuous monitoring of clear beverages such as water, juices, or beer directly in the main line requires a hygienic design that does not influence the medium. Our Atrato and Process Atrato ultrasonic flow meters fulfill these requirements optimally. They operate without moving parts and are free of dead volume, which prevents the formation of germs. With an accuracy of ±1 % of the reading and a very high turndown ratio of 250:1, they guarantee precise monitoring across a wide flow range.
Monitoring of CIP/SIP Cleaning Circuits
Reliable monitoring of the flow of cleaning agents during CIP/SIP (Cleaning/Sterilization in Place) processes requires sensors with high chemical resistance and temperature resistance. The Process Atrato is the ideal solution for this application. Its wetted parts, made of 316 stainless steel and PEEK, guarantee the necessary resistance to aggressive cleaning agents. It is suitable for low-temperature CIP processes up to 65 °C, thereby ensuring the successful completion of cleaning cycles.

Technical Specifications and System Integration
Approvals and Certifications for the Food Industry
Our flow meters meet the strict regulatory requirements of the food and beverage industry. We ensure that our products possess the necessary approvals, such as the FDA compliance of the PFA material in the MetraFlow or the NSF certification for models like the Beverage Meter and the NSF Beverage Mini. Upon request, we are pleased to provide additional industry-specific certificates to verify compliance with your quality standards.
Hygienic Design and Materials
The hygienic design of our flow meters is a top priority to guarantee product safety. We exclusively use high-quality materials approved for food contact, such as PFA, PEEK, and 316 stainless steel. The construction of many of our sensors especially the ultrasonic flow meters is specifically designed without dead volume to prevent deposits and microbial growth. This allows for simple and effective cleaning and ensures full CIP/SIP capability.
Integration into Existing Beverage Filling Plants
For seamless integration into your existing plants, we offer a variety of electrical and mechanical interfaces. Our sensors deliver standard output signals such as NPN/PNP pulses as well as analog signals (4–20 mA / 0–10 V), ensuring compatibility with all common PLC systems. Mechanically, we provide various connection options, including widely used standards such as John Guest fittings on our Beverage Meters or Tri-Clamp connections for hygienic applications.
Which Flow Meters Are Suitable for Media with Carbonation or Solid Content?
For measuring carbonated media, oval gear flow meters are particularly suitable since they operate as positive displacement meters. For media containing solid particles, electromagnetic flow meters or ultrasonic flow meters can be utilized.
Custom Flow Meter Solutions for Beverage Filling Plants
In addition to our extensive standard portfolio, we at DDM Sensors also develop custom flow meter solutions for beverage filling plants. Should your specific applications require unique forms, materials, or measurement technologies that are not met by standard products, we will work together with you to develop a tailored solution.
